Statutory vs General Safety Signs
Statutory signs are required in many buildings and workplaces under the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards such as AS 1319 — for example, "Fire Safety Door — Do Not Obstruct." They support building compliance and emergency safety.
General safety signs cover wider workplace messaging — warnings, prohibitions, mandatory PPE, notices and site information.
Both are made to the relevant Australian Standards where one applies, but choosing the right sign, size and placement for your site remains the responsibility of the building owner or occupier. This is general information, not legal advice.
